8 Unexpected Benefits of Travel Insurance

When you think about travel insurance, you first thought might be flight cancellations or other non-refundable travel arrangements you can’t control and hope you’re covered for.

There’s so much more to travel insurance than filing claims for the inconvenience of canceled flights and unexpected overnight hotel stays though.

Check out these top eight benefits of travel insurance that may never have crossed your mind.

1. Medical evacuation

Thinking about getting stuck in a foreign country without adequate healthcare can be unsettling. But rest assured — you’re safe with us. Seven Corners has a team of professional nurses, doctors, and assistance coordinators ready to help you every step of the way in getting to a competent hospital when you need it most. We’re available to help 24/7, so you never have to worry about getting in touch with us. We’ll work out all the details for you so that we can get you transported and cared for without any extra stress.

2. Cancel for Work Reasons

After all the effort you put into planning your trip, your boss gives you that promotion you’ve been waiting to receive for two years. Awesome, right? Except now, you can’t get that time off you were planning on for your vacay. Practically speaking, we don’t know what the future holds, and sometimes you just can’t be sure a year in advance that you’ll be able to get time off of work.

So, this is a benefit you can opt into that allows you to cancel your trip for work reasons. If you’re in the middle of a huge work project and can’t leave — it’s okay! Your trip can be refunded, and you can take it another time (when you’re less busy.)

3. Cancel for Any Reason

Of course, there are those things you just don’t see coming. Things that aren’t listed in your plan as a "covered reason” for cancellation. Let’s say your child makes it to the National Spelling Bee, or your favorite cousin plans their wedding a month in advance, interfering with your travel arrangements — you have to find a way to go.

The cancel for any reason benefit, or “CFAR,” is a benefit you can opt into that is designed for this very purpose. If you don’t opt into the Cancel for Any Reason benefit, then you are only covered for the reasons listed in the plan. But if you opt into this benefit and pay the increase in cost for it, you’ll get 75 percent of your trip cost back if you have to cancel for your uncle’s sister’s graduation.

4. Accident and Sickness Medical Expense

The last thing you want to do is get sick on vacation. This is a benefit that will cover you in case you fall ill or get hurt and need to see a doctor. You don’t want to have to worry about that cost — who knows how expensive it could get! With this coverage, we’ll reimburse you for those costs so that you can get good care without worrying about the cost.

5. Find a Doctor

What's worse than getting sick on your trip? Not knowing where to go for help. All you need to do is find a way to contact us, and we’ll help you find a doctor that’s close to you so that you don’t have to wonder where to go. Or, before you leave, you can look on wellabroad.com — it lists providers outside the U.S. that we have a relationship with.

6. Extension of Coverage

Some of our plans include this surprising benefit. Essentially, all the benefits under your travel insurance plan will be extended if you must delay your return because of circumstances out of your control (usually a medical issue or a canceled flight). This extension lasts until you reach your destination, or until five days after the trip was supposed to end, so you don’t have to worry that your coverage ends before your trip does. Check your plan to see if this is included! It can be a lifesaver.

7. Rental Car Damage

Now here’s something you didn’t see coming: additional rental car insurance. Did you worry when you read the rental car agreement? It can get pricey quickly if something happened to that car. Some of our plans offer an optional rental car damage benefit that may help cover those costs if something happens.

8. 24/7 Customer Service

You’ve probably heard that you can call Seven Corners 24/7. But did you know that there are lots of other ways to contact us too? You can call, chat online on our website, or email, and we’re always here to help! Not only can we assist you with finding doctors, but we can help explain your plan to you, too, so there are no surprises. You can even submit your claim by email or online, instead of mailing it to us, so you don’t have to waste stamps and send us originals in hopes that it will get here safe. We want you to feel free to reach out to us at any time with any questions. No more wondering if you sent us what we need or fill out that form the right way the first time. Our customer service team is more than happy to answer those questions at your convenience. Plus, we can do it in many languages!

Contact us any time for more information on the best benefits you can get with Seven Corners. Now get out there and go have adventures!
