Medical Director

As medical director, William Barker, M.D., F.A.C.E.P, contributes more than 30 years of medical expertise to Seven Corners. In this position, he provides guidance in a number of facets, working with our 24-hour assistance team, nursing staff, and claims team to ensure our members receive the best and most appropriate care. Dr. Barker evaluates all emergency medical situations to determine the required level of care. He is involved with ongoing medical evaluation and oversees medical evacuations when indicated.

Dr. Barker’s experience base comes from various positions he has held throughout his career, including ongoing positions as an Emergency Physician for Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Virginia and INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital; Medical Director for Universal Service and Assistance Corporation; Medical Team Manager for Virginia Task Force 1 - Urban Search and Rescue Team, as well as Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine.

He founded Virginia Emergency Medicine Associates and has been active in medical specialty society and hospital leadership positions, including serving as the current Chairman of the Quality Council. In addition, Dr. Barker has been involved in numerous Urban Search and Rescue Deployments since 1994, including responding to the Pentagon on 9/11/2001, Banda Aceh Indonesia, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and several other earthquake, tsunami, and hurricane events in which he functioned as a direct care provider or subject matter expert/incident manager on behalf of FEMA and OFDA/USAID. Dr. Barker has also been active as a medical director in the travel assistance business for 20 years, including personally performing medical evacuations and evaluating various international medical facilities.

In addition, Dr. Barker has written several publications and served as an invited presenter on topics such as disaster situations and medical response. He maintains memberships in various professional organizations. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and an M.D. degree from the University of Virginia, completing his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
