How Does Trip Insurance Define a Pre-Existing Condition?

Jun 11, 2019

We understand some aspects of trip insurance can be confusing. One topic many people ask about is pre-existing conditions. Learn what’s considered a pre-existing condition for Seven Corners’ RoundTrip plans.

Let's discuss what's considered a pre-existing condition for our RoundTrip plans.

To find out if  you have a pre-existing condition, it's important to understand the way the plan defines a pre-existing condition. RoundTrip Economy, RoundTrip Choice, and RoundTrip Elite define a pre-existing condition this way:

It's an illness, disease, or condition you or your travel companion, business partner, or family member booked to travel with you has within 60 days before the RoundTrip plan starts.

This means that during those 60 days, one of two things happen.

Number one: A test, exam, or treatment was received or recommended for a condition that first manifested, worsened, or become acute, or exhibited symptoms that would have prompted a reasonable person to seek treatment.

Or, number two: Prescription medication was received or taken for the condition. However, if you took prescription medication, and your condition was controlled solely by that medication, and it remiained controlled for 60 days before your plan began, your condition is not considered a pre-existing condition.

Remember, there are some conditions and situations specifically excluded by trip insurance. You can find these by reading the exclusions in the plan document.

Our Roundtrip Elite and RoundTrip Choice plans offer a waiver of pre-existing conditions which eliminates the exclusion for pre-existing conditions. Watch our video on this topic to learn more.
