Frequently Asked Questions

This type of plan allows you to cancel your trip or interrupt it for a list of covered reasons, so it’s important to understand those reasons. You can view the list of covered reasons in your plan document and on the product page.

If you’re concerned you may need to cancel or interrupt your trip for a reason not listed in the plan document, you may wish to consider purchasing two optional benefits:

  • Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR)***; and
  • Interruption for Any Reason (IFAR)***.

Optional Cancel for Any Reason travel insurance coverage (CFAR)***
This coverage pays 75% of your trip cost if you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered. Restrictions may apply so review your plan document for details. Read more to learn how Cancel for Any Reason coverage may be right for you.

Optional Interruption for Any Reason travel insurance coverage (IFAR)***
Worried you may start your trip and then need to interrupt it for a reason not covered by your plan?

IFAR can help If you interrupt your trip 48 hours or more after your actual scheduled departure date for any reason not otherwise covered. This benefit can pay up to 75% of your insured trip cost to reimburse nonrefundable and unused prepaid trip expenses and additional transportation expenses if you must cut your trip short, start your trip late, rejoin your trip, or return from your trip late.

Here are a few examples situations when these benefits could help.

What if you had a trip scheduled and discovered a week before your departure date that your destination was experiencing a huge increase in COVID-19 cases? You may decide you don’t want to go on your trip because you’re afraid of contracting COVID while traveling. Fear of travel is not a covered reason for canceling a trip, so you could buy CFAR*** to help in this type of situation.

Likewise, what if you traveled to your destination and spent a couple of days there, only to discover they were experiencing an increase in the number of locally transmitted COVID-19 cases? If you weren’t comfortable with the precautions being taken and became fearful of contracting the virus, you may wish to go home early. Again, fear is not a covered reason for interrupting a trip, so you could buy IFAR*** for this situation.

Here are a few additional examples when IFAR*** or CFAR*** could prove helpful. There are many others.

  • Your pet becomes ill, and you want to cancel or interrupt your trip.
  • You have a falling out with a friend and no longer want to vacation with them, or you have a disagreement during your trip and wish to come home early.
  • You have an unexpected financial crisis and no longer want to travel.

Trip Medical Insurance*coverage is especially important if you are traveling overseas. If you get hurt or become sick on your trip, you may need to seek medical treatment before you return home. Many domestic health insurance plans may not cover medical care you receive abroad (this includes Medicare). Also, some foreign providers may expect you to pay for services before you receive treatment or as soon as it’s provided.

*Our RoundTrip plans provide emergency medical benefits for sicknesses and injuries that occur when you are traveling. There is even a benefit for emergency dental expenses if you injure a sound, natural tooth.

RoundTrip plans include an emergency medical evacuation benefit that’s especially important if adequate and necessary medical treatment is not available in your immediate area. The benefit can pay to transport you to the nearest medical facility where treatment is available if you incur a sickness or injury that is acute or life threatening during your trip.

Our plans offer a range of emergency medical evacuation coverage, so you have options.

So, how much medical evacuation coverage do you need? It varies depending on your medical condition and your location. You may wish to consider your health and the location where you are traveling when you choose your plan.

Important 24/7 Non-Insurance Travel Assistance Service

Additionally, Seven Corners Assist, our 24/7 care team, provides travel assistance services such as helping you find a medical provider, translation services, guidance for next steps if you lose your passport, and they will also arrange emergency benefits for you, such as a medical evacuation or repatriation.

When you’re traveling abroad, travel assistance services provided by an experienced team can be a huge help, so you don’t have to go it alone if a problem arises on your trip.

When should you buy travel insurance?

It’s best to buy your plan as soon as possible after you make your first payment or deposit for your trip. Why? Certain benefits such as Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR), Interruption for Any Reason (IFAR), and the Pre-existing Condition Waiver are available only if you buy your plan within the specified time.

Confused about calculating your trip cost?

We ask for your trip cost when we provide a quote for coverage, and it should include nonrefundable expenses for airfare, a cruise, hotel, entertainment, excursions, house/condo rental, and other similar expenses.

It’s important to know how to calculate the cost of your trip for travel insurance.

  • *Covered reasons vary by residence state. You can view the list of covered reasons in detail after you provide your residence state.
  • **Our RoundTrip plans provide emergency medical benefits for sicknesses and injuries that occur when you are traveling. There is even a benefit for emergency dental expenses if you injure a sound, natural tooth.
  • ***CFAR and IFAR are subject to certain eligibility criteria and are not available in all states. You will be offered the benefit when you complete the Quick Quote if it’s available to you. In certain states, the CFAR benefit does not cover the failure of the Travel Supplier to provide the bargained-for Travel Arrangements due to cessation of operations for any reason. In certain states, the IFAR benefit does not cover penalties associated with Travel Arrangements not provided by the Travel Supplier for this Trip and failure of the Travel Supplier to provide the agreed upon arrangements for Your Trip for any reason.
