Knowledge Seeker
Trip happens, but you already know that.
That’s why you have a detailed itinerary ... with contingency plans ... and back-ups to your contingency plans. Because it pays to be prepared.
Just because you know things most other people never think about, that doesn’t mean you’re a nerd (although maybe just a little bit; fly your flag proudly). You see travel as a way to enhance knowledge. You might like learning new languages, throwing yourself into a cultural immersion, picking up new skills, or examining a new perspective on yourself and the world.
You tend to be introspective, but that doesn’t mean you’re standoffish. Travelers like you enjoy meeting new people on the road, whether it’s locals or fellow explorers on a tour. And speaking of tours, you’re totally down for a themed trip. It could be a weekend full of museum hopping, a deep dish pizza pub crawl, or a tour of Jane Austen’s England. If you’re traveling with kids, there’s definitely an educational component to your trip. You’re visiting historic sites, presidential libraries and birthplaces, and monuments. Beaches aren’t for laying on; they’re an environmental science lesson waiting to happen.
You might also really be into taking an adult gap year. Business travel is great, especially if you can turn into a workcation. But turning it into a sabbatical where you can really upskill personally and professionally ... Where do we sign up?
In your kitchen cabinet, there’s a coffee mug that says, “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer.” It matches the mug that reads, “Enjoy the journey.” And you do. Train rides and road trips are half the fun of any trip. It’s not just about the destination, after all. You are worried about not squeezing out every last drop out of your experience. There’s always something to get out of a trip, and the worst vacation is one where you come back without some new piece of trivia or know-how.
Where’s your next trip? Try a voluntour or mission trip in Guatemala, walk part — or all — of the Camino de Santiago, or immerse yourself in the ancient history of Athens.
