Adventure Team | Dec 21, 2020
One of our favorite wanderlusts and adventurous spirits of the Seven Corners Adventure Team is Amy Brown who serves as the Chief Operations Officer at Seven Corners. She recently went on an adventure in Colorado with her husband to conquer and summit Longs Peak!
For our annual “getaway” weekend without the kids, my husband and I traveled to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, CO with the goal of summiting Longs Peak, a 14,259 footer. My husband, having summited twice before, provided a lot of insight about how to approach the climb.
We started our ascent at 3:00 a.m. and climbed in the dark for about 4 hours. We watched the sunrise at about 12,000 feet. As we continued on towards the summit, it began to rain and then the rain turned to snow. The snow and freezing rain made the giant boulder field slick and it became apparent that summit may not be a reality on this trip. We ended our climb at the famous Keyhole at 13,200 feet due to high winds and continued snow.
While we were both disappointed we didn’t make it all the way up to the top during this trip, our responsibilities as parents kept our heads and feet “grounded.” We will be returning to give it another go this summer!
