This augmented reality game is adding a whole new spin on travel, bringing Pikachu to Machu Picchu and Mewtwo to Timbuktu. international Pokémon tour for
the global-minded trainers. In August 2016, Pokémon GO players from all around the globe came together in San Francisco for the 2016 Pokémon World Championships. Players from over 35 countries internationally competed for a prize pool of over $500,000.
Like anything that gets people out and about, there presents a certain level of risk. We’ve certainly seen the stories about people being distracted while catching Pokémon, wandering into places they shouldn’t, and, in one particular
case, even falling into a ditch. But what about Pokéinsurance?
In Russia, Pokémon Go players are offered free insurance by the country’s biggest bank (Sberbank) in the event of
injuries while playing the popular game.
If you’re traveling abroad, consider purchasing a travel insurance plan. Your health insurance
at home may not cover you while you’re traveling. If you get hurt or become sick while chasing Pokémon, you will want to make sure you’re covered. Before buying a travel insurance plan, read (I know it’s boring) the fine print
to find out what’s covered and what’s not covered.
Picture this: you’re on solid ground in Cairo, chasing down a Charizard, and SPLAT! A pyramid collapses on you. Are you covered with a travel insurance plan? Yes! What if you’re pursuing a Jigglypuff through the streets of Bangkok, and
you step off a curb and sprain your ankle? Are you covered? You bet!
Just like with anything, if you’re breaking a law, you’re not going to be covered. Also, I can’t stress this enough: Please DON’T Pokémon and drive! You’re risking your life and the lives of others by being a
distracted driver. Trust me, you will be able to find a Blastoise in a safer setting than on the road ... and feel a lot better about it! A good policy to implement for yourself when you’re playing? Be smart.
On the flip side, there are so many positives about the game while you’re exploring the world around you, stay alert to take in your surroundings and meet new friends.
